Chapter One
TRINSIC
About
What is this?
A town you can walk around in, in your browser. Trinsic is a walled city with a gatehouse, a quay, shops, an inn and the people who live and work there, built in 3D and seen at eye level. You arrive outside the south gate and find your own way in.
Is this Ultima VII?
It began there. The town was first built to match Trinsic as it appears in Ultima VII: The Black Gate: its walls, its streets and the buildings along them. From here on, Ultima VII is a reference for the world, its stories and the people in it rather than a blueprint, so the town will grow into a place of its own.
How do I play?
Click the title screen to begin and press Enter once the town has loaded. It is played with a keyboard and mouse.
- WASD move shift run C crouch space jump
- E open doors, pick things up, climb ledges
- I look in the bag of whoever you are facing
- tab your own pack J your journal
- esc release the mouse and see the controls again
Is my progress saved?
Yes, automatically, in this browser. Where things are and what you have picked up is kept between visits. A different browser, a private window or clearing this site's data starts a fresh game. Now and then the town changes in a way an old save cannot follow, and a returning player starts fresh once.
What do I need to run it?
A desktop or laptop browser with a keyboard and mouse. It draws a whole town in 3D, so a reasonably recent computer helps. The first visit downloads the town, which can take a minute; later visits are quicker.
How is it made?
It runs on three.js and is written in TypeScript. The buildings are assembled from a kit of walls, floors and roofs; the furniture, animals and people are a mix of purchased and generated models, cleaned up, rigged and animated in Blender.
Is it official?
No. This is an unofficial fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Origin Systems. Ultima is a trademark of Electronic Arts.
